John McKendrick has extensive capital infrastructure experience for both large and small infrastructure projects especially public-private partnerships but also traditional stipulated sum and construction management projects.
John was one of the founding staff members of Infrastructure Ontario (IO) in 2005 and as an Assistant Deputy Minister at the Ontario Ministry of Public Infrastructure Renewal worked on all aspects of the creation of Infrastructure Ontario while at the same time advancing P3 projects from planning through procurement and financial close and into construction and substantial completion.
As one of the founding members of IO, John was involved in all areas of the early organzation development including project planning, gaining stakeholder support for major transformational change both within government and external to the government with hospitals and the design and construction industry, legal and transaction structuring, project budgeting, hiring staff, closing transactions, creating governance processes and monitoring and managing construction through to completion as well as managing project issues in the operational phase.
John has been responsible for over 75 major infrastructure projects. Most of these projects have been vertical infrastructure (buildings) but John also has experience in horizontal infrastructure (civil projects) including major highways and transit systems. Vertical infrastructure experience includes hospitals, courthouses, Pan Am Games sports facilities, detention centres, post-secondary education facilities, police facilities, child treatment centres, a data centre, government accommodation and highway service centres.
John recently retired from Infrastructure Ontario and formed his own consulting business.
